Description
Enjoy a weekend away in Wales riding with a group of like minded women with a little touch of luxury at the end of the day
The Riding
If you want a weekend of big challenging rides then look no further. Over the weekend we will take in the best trails in the area. We will ride through woodlands, over open moorland, through rivers and streams, some nice rocky technical sections and of course some lung busting climbs that will test your fitness levels! The best thing is that once we are out on the hills we will barely see another soul. So if you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, come to Wales, you won’t regret it.
The Accommodation
A luxurious newly renovated house in the pretty market town of Rhayader, this place is something special. Think of an Alpine chalet for bikes! It has super comfortable ensuite rooms and plenty of spaces to relax and socialise. There is a sauna in the basement and a hot tub outside not to mention a bicycle maintenance area and secure bike storage. Ride straight from the door and onto the trails. Rooms will be for two sharing. If you prefer a single room please get in touch and we will see what we can do.
The Food
We will be offering simple, nutritious and delicious food over the weekend all designed to help you keep the pedals turning. Think porridge or granola for breakfast with some added protein in the form of scrambled eggs or tofu. Lunches will be eaten out on the trail and you choose from a selection of sandwich fillings and treats. The evening meal will be hearty and healthy with a protein element to make sure our muscles recover well.
The Details
The weekend will kick off on Friday with a moderate afternoon ride to stretch the legs after your journey and so that we can all get to know each other a bit. Saturday’s ride is the big one with a varied 40km loop taking in some excellent descents and challenging climbs. Sunday will be a bit more mellow but we save the best descent to last, its sure to leave you with a big smile on your face and wanting more. We aim to finish up by 3pm on Sunday to give everyone a chance to head home at a reasonable time.
What if I can’t make the Friday afternoon ride?
Thats no bother – just arrive when you can, we can always give you suggestions for a short loop if you miss the departure time but still want to stretch your legs.
Is this the weekend for me?
If you like riding in the supportive atmosphere of other women and enjoy challenging yourself a little then this could well be the weekend for you. We like to be sociable about things, we also like to drink tea and eat cake, but mostly we like to enjoy the riding and not make a competition out of things!
Is it suitable for beginners?
The riding this weekend will require some mountain bike experience. However, if you are fit and already do take part in some type of endurance type exercise and are willing to give things a go you would probably do just fine. If you are not sure just get in touch and ask.
What about public transport?
The nearest train stations to the Elan Valley Lodge are Llandrindod Wells (13 miles) or Caersws (23 miles). We can suggest taxi companies if you get in touch.
