A great weekend in the Elan Valley

Tuesday 7 August

We had some lovely feedback from a very happy Mountain Bike Yogi from the August weekend " Fantastic weekend of yoga and mountain biking. Great Yoga, lovely location, fantastic cakes, amazing trails, - Thanks Polly, keep up the good work, and thanks Phill for all the words of wisdom out on the trail"

With the forecast looking dreadful for the saturday and sunday I was a little concerned that the weekend would be a washout. Still, everyone arrived on friday evening and we had a lovely hot session of Vinyasa flow yoga before our delicious dinner made by the lovely Karen from the Elan Valley Lodge (I wanted to take her home to be my chef at home!). Saturday morning was looking grey but by the time we had done our morning Yoga session (pretty hot and sweaty that was too!) the sun had broken through and we were off into the hills of the Elan Valley. Our first major climb - Puke Hill, saw some of us puffing and panting although we did have one member of our group who was so full of energy that he got to the top, rode back down and back up again! Then we we onto a beautiful long descent back down into the valley. Some of us carried on to ride the sunken road with deep puddles and a river to ride through at the end while half of us skipped the puddles and went uphill again. We all met up again back in the valley and stopped for lunch next to Caban Coch reservoir. The next climb was a biggie - last big climb of the day over Bonk hill....then downhill again and onto the Links road - a lovely rocky steppy descent which most of us enjoyed! Halfway down the heavens opened and found us sheltering unsuccessfully in some trees - with a river growing on our trail we decided to just get on our bikes and go for it - riding hell for leather down a muddy river - the folks who were being a bit tentative beforehand just flew down - we were drenched!! Luckily it wasnt too far back to the Lodge for hot showers and delicious cake!

Sunday was a bit wetter, legs were tired, but we still managed to have a great ride with some people making huge improvements in their confidence. A few more rivers rode through and some lovely challenging climbs. We ended the weekend with a chilled out Yoga session with some lovely long stretches.

Can't wait for the next weekend now!! Roll on October!
